PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the season-opening cup on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times late to seize a shock lead. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the dying seconds to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
